Red Flag Laws Are As Good as the Data - WSJ By Holman W. Jenkins, Jr.

Mr. Jenkins proposes particular ways that Red Flag laws could proactively prevent some of our incidents of mass shootings. His ideas are reminiscent of a recent Hollywood movie but contain even more obvious extensions of the “1984” themes:
Very interesting——the Minority Report without the triplet “seers”. A violence preventative version of the Thought Police. In providing a “risk score” from social media, remember some human writes the algorithm and assigns the relative scores, this is always subject to manipulation. Alerts based on facial recognition would not work well; this software has been shown to work mainly with Caucasian people. Better we all have chips installed that work with Musk’s Starlink internet system so that Big Brother can always know where everyone is. (for a very farsighted prediction of that, see the 1960’s James Coburn movie “The President’s Analyst”)
