The local newspaper May 8th article on Covid status in Ventura County California indirectly affirms several points ignored during the pandemic phase. A recent serum survey by the CDC indicates as many as 58% of the U.S. population has been immunized, either by vaccination or by infection, against some Covid variant. Most importantly 75% of those younger than 17 have this status. The presence of antibodies indicates prior exposure to the virus or vaccine, in both instances markedly reducing the likelihood of repeat infection, hospitalization, or death. Thus, likely most of the population, although this serum study was not done randomly across the nation, is now protected against severe illness or death, especially with the availability of anti-viral Paxlovid and prophylactic Evusheld.
